Rebrilo for macOS

Before you write

Requirements	macOS 26 or later. Apple silicon and Intel.
Files it opens	RAW from most makers, plus JPEG, HEIC, TIFF and PNG.
Where your photographs live	Wherever you already keep them. Rebrilo references folders in place and never copies, moves or rewrites your originals.
Where your edits live	In the application's own container, beside the catalogue. Your image files are never modified.
Internet	Not used. Rebrilo ships with no network access at all.

What to send with a bug report

• The version — it is at the foot of Settings, along with how much memory your Mac has.
• Your macOS version — Apple menu › About This Mac.
• What you did, step by step. Even a rough sequence beats a description of the result.
• The camera and the file type, if a particular photograph is involved. A RAW file from one maker is a different animal from another's.
• A screenshot, if there is anything on screen worth seeing. ⇧⌘4 on the Mac.
• If the application quit unexpectedly: what the status line said just before it, if you saw it, and what you were doing. Rebrilo leaves itself a note about the last thing it was working on and shows it the next time it starts — that sentence is worth copying.

Please do not send photographs unless they are asked for, and never send anything you would mind being seen. Most faults are reproducible without your pictures.

Common questions

How does the free trial work?

Fourteen days of the complete application, with nothing held back. No card and no sign-up. When the trial ends, editing, culling and the library keep working — what needs unlocking is exporting and sharing. Your photographs and every edit you have made stay exactly where they are.

I bought it and it is still asking me to buy.

Open Settings and use Restore Purchases on the unlock screen. That asks the App Store again, which is where the purchase is kept. Make sure the Mac is signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us: Apple menu › System Settings › your name › Media & Purchases › Manage, or from the App Store app. Cancelling there stops the renewal; the time you have already paid for runs to the end.

What do I get with the one-time purchase?

The complete application, and updates are included — nothing is held back from it relative to the subscription, it does not expire, and there is nothing to renew. The terms name a minimum of 24 months because European law requires a minimum to be named; it is a floor, not the point at which updates were ever meant to stop.

I want a refund.

Purchases are made through the App Store, so refunds are Apple's to give. Use reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account you bought with. Do tell us what went wrong as well — a refund we could have prevented is a fault worth fixing.

Does it change or move my photographs?

No. Your image files are never written to. Edits are stored separately, so the original is always exactly as the camera left it — and removing a photograph from the library leaves the file on disk.

My photographs are on an external disk that is not always connected.

That is expected and supported. A folder on a disconnected disk goes offline and keeps its photographs, thumbnails and ratings; when the disk comes back the library reconnects on its own.

The photographs in the grid are black and white, but I shot RAW.

A camera set to a monochrome picture style writes a colour RAW with a black-and-white preview inside it, and a thumbnail is that preview. Rebrilo says so in a bar over the grid and offers to develop the tiles from the RAW files themselves.

Something that needs the Mac's own detection — a sky mask, a subject mask — says it could not run.

That is macOS's own image analysis declining, and it happens on some Macs. Where Rebrilo offers Try the CPU, take it; there is also a switch in Settings › General to run detection on the CPU permanently. Everything that does not need detection — adjustments, looks, crop, hand-made masks, export, the library — is unaffected.

Is there a Windows version? An iPad version?

Not today. Rebrilo is a Mac application.

I have an idea, or something reads wrongly.

Please write. Rebrilo is worked on continuously and small updates go out through the year, so a good suggestion has somewhere to land. Not everything can be built — you will get a plain answer rather than a promise and then silence — and a sentence in the application that misled you is a real bug and is treated as one.
